World Bank and KPEC Project discussed the roadmap for the Implementation of the KPEC Development Plan
World Bank’s Task Team and Khyber Pass Economic Corridor (KPEC) Project team met at the World Bank (WB) office, in Islamabad on December 13th, 2024, to discuss the roadmap for the implementation of the KPEC Development Plan under modules IV and V of the contract.
The representative of the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK), along with the World Bank’s consultant for Urban Planning Mr. Jens Aerts also attended the meeting. During the session, NESPAK presented the progress on Module X – Master Plans for the Urban Center of Jamrud and Landikotal and outlined the proposed work plan for subsequent modules. During the meeting, the participants concluded that NESPAK shall hold a meeting with the National Highway Authority (NHA) to get insights regarding the alignment of PTEX/SLR and identify options for connections with existing and new roads, the feasibility of tollbooths, the construction of underpasses, bridges, and the refurbishment of existing Grand Trunk Road - N5.
Additionally, during the meeting, a need to incorporate key interventions, including connectivity link roads, improvements to N5, better pedestrian cross ability, future bus stop planning, and walking infrastructure for neighborhoods. Attention may also be given to enhancing commercial efficiency, urban upgrading for better service delivery, and integrating green spaces to ensure sustainability. The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding of priorities and a clear plan to advance the project effectively.
