Peshawar, 2nd May, 2024 – The World Bank's Social Safeguards team, led by Mr. Hasan Zaidi, Task Team Leader and Senior Transport Specialist, along with Ms. Mishka Zaman, Senior Social Development Specialist, Mr. Hafeez Buzdar, Consultant, Mr. Zahid Shakeel Ahmad, Consultant, and Ms. Sara Zafar Cheema, Transport Consultant, recently conducted a mission to meet with the Project Management Team of the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor (KPEC) Project.

During the mission, the team reviewed the Grievance Redressal Mechanism System and Dashboard, along with an update on the Environmental and Social Safeguards for key sub-projects including the Border Bazar, International Bus Terminal, KPEC Development Plan, Master Plans for Landikotal and Jamrud, and the Inclusive Business Development Park under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC), among others.

The mission members expressed appreciation for the overall progress of the project, particularly highlighting the effective implementation of the safeguards. The review conducted by the World Bank's Social Safeguards team reaffirms the commitment to ensuring that the Khyber Pass Economic Corridor Project adheres to the highest standards of environmental and social safeguards, while promoting inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
